Tom Meier is a legend in the gaming industry. He has been a professional miniatures sculptor for over 30 years. He began his career with Ral Partha and now produces his own line of miniatures through his family company, Thunderbolt Mountain.
There are several ranges of figurines produced by Thunderbolt Mountain. My personal favourite are the 25mm Arthurians. All of the characters from Mallory's tale are here -- from King Arthur and Queen Gwenyvere through Sir Gawayne and Sir Bors to Sir Kay and Sir Gareth. Aside from the Legendary Figures there are the Common Folk -- townsfolk, peasants, and so on to complete your scenes.
Thunderbolt Mountain also produce a range of 30mm fantasy figurines, elves and goblins well suited to wargaming. Of particular note is the variety of elven armour types -- lamellar, chainmail with plates, leaf-scale, chainmail, and studded gambeson.
These figurines are metal, not plastic, and have the traditional metal bases. These can be removed (I use a belt sander -- carefully!) and the figurine attached to a 3rd-party base such as those produced by Aaron Cains at back2base-ix.com.
